Riding the lanes

Former Taxiride member Dan Hall has found his way back into the music scene after a five-year hiatus with his new band Airway Lanes. Their debut self-titled EP shows the new outfit has a lot of promise.

Produced by Pete Murray's producer Jimi Maroudas, Airway Lanes certainly isn’t another Taxiride record under another name. The band has a rather harder edge than Hall’s predecessor. This gives this EP a fresh sound, although perhaps it doesn’t have Taxiride’s ear for a catchy tune. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but makes this a little less accessible.

Even so, ‘Second Chance’ and ‘These are the Times’ both have strong hooks and a hummable chorus to please those looking for songs to sing along to.

This EP is a likeable debut that demonstrates plenty of promise from Airway Lanes. The test will be to back it up with solid live shows and a full-length album. Given Hall’s track record, you’d have to expect he can achieve just that in the near future.
