Tyler
Ramsey is the lead guitarist for Band Of Horses but on his third solo
record he separates himself somewhat as he ventures down a Neil Young
type road with excellent results.
The
same soft vocals that have helped out on the
gorgeous BOH harmonies take the front seat on The Valley Wind and showcase Ramsey
for not only his smooth vocals but competent lyric content. His talent
has long been realized by BOH since he joined in 2007, as it took a
larger role on their last record Infinite
Arms [2010] with co-writing on several songs and a lead vocal,
so it should not surprise fans how strong The Valley Wind is.
BOH bassist Bill Reynolds produced the record,
which also lends itself to familiarity but unlike Ramsey's other
material, The Valley Wind
stays very controlled and hoovers just above library talk. Its calmness
is infectious as his Americana swagger shines track after track.
The Valley Wind
is a record that should not be missed if you are a fan of warm 70's
folk because Tyler Ramsey's delivery is almost flawless and with just
several spins it is an album that becomes very difficult to pull out of
rotation as it just gets better each time.
